All matters concerning Knowledge or wisdom are called Osool Ad-deen which are the fundamentals of religion and they are five.
- Tawheed ( Oneness of Allah )
- Nubuwah ( Prophethood)
- Imamate ( Belief in the 12 Holy Imams Ahullbait (A.S).
- Adl ( Allah (S.W) is most just)
- Meaad ( Resurrection and judgment day)
Tawheed
This is the declaration of the Oneness of Allah and ascribe no partners to Allah in his actions. One should also believe that creation, sustenance, life and death are governed by Allah alone. One should worship non but Allah.Obedience to the prophets and the Holy Imams is indirectly obedience to Allah because they are the ones who proclaim the divine command.
Nubuwah
All prophets were appointed by Allah, all of them were sent by him and they are all his exalted servants and prophets. Mohammad (pbuh&hf) is both the seal of the prophets, (the final prophet) and the chief of all the prophets. He was perfectly infallible, free from sin and deviation.
Imamate
The Imamate is the rank of the perfect man, like prophet hood it is sustained by Almighty God for the guidance of the people.
The Shias believe that Almighty God ordered his prophet Mohammad (pbuh&hf) to appoint Ali Ibn Abi Talib (a.s) as his successor so that after the prophet hood the mission of spreading Islam might be continued. It is quite obvious that from amongst other sects in Islam from the beginning of the Islamic era until present time the Muslims have in general not truly followed the Holy prophets guidance .
Allah (S.W) the All Mighty declaredin the Holy Quran in very clear words
“Oh prophet, deliver immediately what you have been commanded to from your lord and if you do it not, then (it will be as if) you have not delivered His massage at all."
Accordingly after the Holy prophets last Hajj the Holy prophet (pbuh&hf) gathered the people at a town called Ghadir Al-Khum and addressed them by the following :
“Am I not better than every believer present here?"
Then all of them said with one voice “certainly” O prophet of God. You are superior to all of us.
Then the Holy prophet (pbuh&hf) said whoever has accepted me as his master, then Ali is his master.
The Holy prophet thus performed his duty and Gods command was carried out.
As soon as the Holy prophet breathed his last breath some Muslims tried to hide the reality of the Imamate.
They did not obey the open declaration of the Holy prophet and through their personal interpretations began to make changes in the religious commands.
The result is well known as to what happened to the Holy prophets family the infallible twelve Imams who were the true appointed leaders to Islam by Allah (S.W) who were victimized, oppressed, imprisoned, poisoned and killed by those who claimed to be Muslims simply because the Holy Imams enjoined what is good and endedwhat is evil and obeyed Allah’s commands to the letter.
As the Holy prophet (pbuh&hf) has said in his sermon to the people during his last Hajj that I leave behind Athaqualain (two things of the same weight) the Holy Quran and My Ahlul-bait (prophets family) they are inseparable follow them and you will be guided separate between them and you will go astray. ( Those who claimed Islam chose to kill the Holy prophets family rather than to follow them and be guided by them).
We the Shia are now awaiting the appearance of the presently existing descendent of the Holy prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hf) Imam AlMahdi (A.S) the twelfth Imam whom Allah (S.W) will reveal to this world in due time to fill this world with just after it is filled with evil and injustice, particularly at a time where good is seen evil and evil is seen to be good.

Adl
Adl is justice. Allah (S.W) is most just to his creations.
Allah (S.W) has sentus messengers and prophets with revelations as to how his creations should lead life on earth and Allah (S.W) has created us with a brain to think with which is superior to any other of his creations.
If we decide to take the path of righteousness and fulfill our obligations towards Allah (S.W) as prescribed to us, then Allah (S.W) is most just and will rewarded us Heaven.
However, if we decide to follow our own desires in this world and ignore our obligations towards Allah (S.W) then Allah (S.W) is most just and inturn will punish us for it. As Allah (S.W) states in the Holy Quran “that who does an atoms weight of goodness will see it on the last day and that who does an atoms weight of bad will see it on the last day.”
Therefore all our deeds are recorded even deeds as small as atoms.

Meaad
Meaad is the Day of Judgment.
Allah (S.W) will bring all people to life again for accountability, punishment and reward on the Day of Judgment.
Meaad involves the appearance of every person before Allah(S.W) in exactly the same human bodily form he/she had while on earth.
Every one shall be entitled to receive punishment or reward according to his/her deeds.Good deeds shall be rewarded
and bad deeds shall entail punishment.

Osool Ad-deen are purely mental based beliefs and requires no physical acts.
A person cannot claim to me a Muslim simply because he/she are imitating their Muslim parents in worship.
For example, in the days of our prophet Ibrahim (A.S), people worshiped Idols and when they were asked as to why they worshiped something that was created by a creator and that can bring them nor good or harm the response was that they found their fathers and forefathers worshiping them so they believed they were practicing the rightreligion.
A Muslim cannot take for granted that he /she is a Muslim simply byimitations through their parents being Muslims.
A Muslim must adopt the mental state of faith / belief and must be satisfied in their mind and heart of the principles of Osool Ad-deen which are the building foundation for faith in Islam.
